October - November, 2007 - We were joined for this voyage by Pelle Peterson and his daughter Marie from Sweden. Pelle is a cousin of Sue Hoyt, our good friend from Portand,Oregon. They first sailed with us in Turkey last year, when we sailed with Sue, Brad and Valerie Hoyt, and two of Valerie’s friends. We had such a good time that they decided to join us for the sail out of the Med into the Atlantic Ocean and the Canary Islands.
Our major focus was the sailing itself, keeping watches, sail tending, and eating wonderful meals. After stocking up on provisions, we set sail from Palma de Mallorca, stopping in Gibraltar. From there we headed out of the Mediterranean into the North Atlantic Ocean. We stopped first at the Canary Island of Formentera, where we took a wonderful taxi tour introducing us to the many monumental works of the wonderful architect-artist named Cesar Manriqué. Finally we took the short sail to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, which is the starting point for our next adventure, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. otherwise known as ARC 2007.
