Jeff & Laura Haaren, Gunter & Betsy Ford Cruise from Nantucket to New Haven
Sept 22-29, 2011 – Jeff and Laura Haaren are friends who live in my original hometown of Rumson, NJ. They brought their friends Gunter and Betsy Ford, joining Stephanie and me in Nantucket to sail over 160 miles to New Haven.
Along the way we stopped at Edgartown, Tarpaulin Cove, Cuttyhunk, Block Island and Mystic Seaport. We had many adventures, including bike trips in Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island. We met new friends from New Zealand sailing a ’52 sistership to Worldwide Traveler. We were surprised to encounter Betsy’s former uncle-in-law in Cuttyhunk, sailing their own classic Herreshoff Yacht. Anchoring in the Mystic River was a challenge, but well worth the visit to Mystic Seaport, steeped in maritime history. We also sailed through the Thimble Islands on our way to New Haven. In all, a wonderful week of adventuring.
Everyone got into the sailing, and with my coaching, our week ended with one of my best honed crews ever.
