The "Midnight Men" - Full Moon Rendezvous in Maine
July 15-17, 2011 Ė Back in high school, we learned to sail together and called ourselves the "Midnight Men". Robby Robinson, Fred Kanner, Jeff Munger and I gathered for a long overdue rendezvous, catching up with our diverse lives and sharing a sailing adventure.
The day they arrived coincided with the Annual Parade of Maineís Windjammer Fleet, as a dozen of the old ships sailed into Rockland Harbor. They were very impressive, and we followed them as they sailed, then lowered sails and anchored. With a few hours left before sunset, we sailed to Vinalhaven Island, near Outward Boundís Hurricaine Island, where a friend of Fredís has a summer home. We partied late into the night.
Next day, after visiting Fredís friend, who took us on a tour of the old fishing town of Vinalhaven, we decided to circumnavigate Vinalhaven Island. It was a beautiful day and our expert crew enjoyed putting Worldwide Traveler through her paces. We finished the day sailing into Pulpit Harbor on North Haven Island under a spectacular full moon, and enjoyed another wonderful rendezvous evening party.
Finally we headed back to Rockland, all agreeing to reprise more reunions in the future. Robby even composed a poem for the Guest Book.
