July 7-13, 2011 – Rob and Rose Batchelder joined Worldwide Traveler for a week of relaxation and exploration in Maine, bringing with them a beautiful Magma barbeque as a present for the boat. Starting in Rockland we spent the week cruising Penobscot Bay as far as Mount Desert Island.
First we took the Casco Passage to Stonington on Deer Island, arriving during their annual "Lobster Boat Races", enjoying a first row mooring. We then sailed to Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, home of famous families such as the Rockefellers. Leaving the boat on a secure mooring, we browsed around Bar Harbor followed by a tour around beautiful Arcadia National Park.
Next we headed through Eggemoggin Reach, stopping in remote Brooklin to visit the Wooden Boat School and home of Wooden Boat Magazine. We spent several hours there and were very impressed by their school. Click here to see their website. We then headed to Bucks Harbor where we spent the night before our return to Rockland.
It was wonderful having my old friends Rob and Rose aboard. Their BBQ present has been much appreciated by me and all who have sailed since then. Thank you both!
